History of Checkmate Arabians
In 1979, we purchased our first Arabian
horses. We started with Polish domestic crosses and bred them for
many years. We produced very correct and athletic horses, which won top
honors both in the performance and breed classes. But, something was missing.
During one of our visits with Frank McCoy, he said, "if you don't have an
Arabian head, you don’t have an Arabian horse”. We knew he was right.
What our herd was missing was dryness of head and finer muzzles.
Therefore, our search began. In
1991, we were fortunate enough to purchase a beautiful straight Egyptian
mare from Wardal Arabians. This lovely mare, named Enshallaa,
is the daughter of the widely acclaimed
Prince Fa Moniet out of the stunning *Talal daughter, Talara. This marked
the beginning of our straight Egyptian breeding program. To date she
has given Checkmate Arabians six wonderful fillies, one by Abraxas Halimaar,
two by ET Crown Prince, and one by our newly acquired stallion Dia Al
Khalifah and two fillies by MC Starstruk. One of her daughters has also
given us a georgeous 2001 filly, by Dia Al Khalifah. In March of 1997,
we aquired a beautiful, black bay, straight Egyptian mare named Monafalishah
from the Mc Leod ranch in Sonoita, Arizona. Monafalishah is a correct mare
with tremendous type and style. She also brings her valuable pedigree, pure
in the strain Kuhaylan, to our breeding progam. In June of 1999, we
purchased MC Starstruk, a yearling colt from Michael and Donna Zimmerman
at Melroy Classic Arabians. Starstruk is by Abraxas Moonstruk and out of
the stunning Raquin Ra daughter, AK Raqi Zafira.
At the age of eight, Starstruk
is a 15.3+ hand chestnut stallion with excellent type and balance. His
many attributes include, straight legs, good feet, short back, and a long
level hip. MC Starstruk has covered his first mares in Spring 2002. In April
2000, we aquired another lovely straight Egyptian mare named AK Sardana
from Lois Billings . AK Sardana is by a Bentwood stallion,
Sar Ibn Moniet and out of the Ansata Ibn Sudan daughter, Soldana. She is
pure in the strain Dahman and very beautiful as well. We are very excited
about her role in our breeding program. After many years of breeding, we
now feel that we have the right individuals to produce the kind of Arabian
horse we are looking for. That horse is the Gladys Brown Edward’s type
of horse, but with just a little more stretch. We look forward to any and
all inquires you may have about our program and our beautiful Arabian horses.
